For What Binds Us

For What Binds Us

There are names for what binds us:
strong forces, weak forces.
Look around, you can see them:
the skin that forms in a half-empty cup,
nails rusting into the places they join,
joints dovetailed on their own weight.
The way things stay so solidly
wherever they've been set down—
and gravity, scientists say, is weak.

And see how the flesh grows back
across a wound, with a great vehemence,
more strong
than the simple, untested surface before.
There's a name for it on horses,
when it comes back darker and raised: proud flesh,

as all flesh
is proud of its wounds, wears them
as honors given out after battle,
small triumphs pinned to the chest—

And when two people have loved each other
see how it is like a
scar between their bodies,
stronger, darker, and proud;
how the black cord makes of them a single fabric
that nothing can tear or mend.

Curated: Amy Friend - Dare alla Luce

Happy Earth Day!!!
Did you do anything to mark the occasion?

Tonight Hudson indulged me by letting me take him for an hour-long walk to and from Manito after dinner...it was the golden hour and I was in heavvvven. This place will seriously never get old and I feel like the luckiest to get to enjoy it daily.

I think I could sit here for an entire day and still not want to leave.

Pink light.

Speaking of heaven, check it...a few of my favorite images from Amy Friend's "Dare alla Luce" series.

Are these not MAGIC?

(This is what my happy memories look like too.)

You can check out Amy Friend's portfolio (and purchase any of the above for me as a gift hinthint) at her website http://amyfriend.ca/section/282356_Dare_alla_Luce.html

They make me want to turn up Nick Drake's Pink Moon too loud and attempt making my own nostalgic constellations with my vintage photographs.

For Hudson

Eighteen months ago I fell head over heels in love with your smoosh cheeks, button nose, and M shaped birthmark...

Today it's seeing your dad and I in your bright eyes, that you always laugh at my jokes, your adventurous spirit, and the way you make me see everything as if it were brand new...I love you, EVERY PART babe.

This one's for you...

This week I am overcome with love and thankfulness for my life.

My son. My husband. This place. This time. Everything.

Yesterday after waking I laid in bed for a few minutes, listening to my son babbling and laughing on the monitor, musing at how full of opportunity the day was and how excited I was to get to share this time with my son. We didn't do anything amazing (well we did score some totally awesome clothes from the thrift store for ten bucks) but we didn't have to; I gave him my unconditional love and appreciated the moments spent with him...lots of kisses, lots of "I love you's", and plenty of hugs.

It's constantly in the back of my mind that Hudson won't be this young ever again, that before I know it he will be grown and won't want to spend all of his time with me, but lately I'm really aware of it and SAVORING every passing minute.
